| For
quick reference, following are some general guidelines for receiving
cattle management. You may want to share these guidelines with
employees, and/or use them to double check you current practices.
Day 1:
- Provide clean, dry, comfortable pens
with plenty of fresh water and good quality hay.
- Check the pens for sick calves.
Examine and treat accordingly or reject as allowed under the sales
contract.
- Introduce the starter ration
containing Diamond V XPTM Yeast Culture to supply two
ounces of yeast culture per head per day.*
- Following a reasonable rest period,
the calves should be:
- Tagged or branded.
- Dewormed and deloused.
- Implanted.
- Vaccinated. Diseases to
consider:
- I.B.R., B.V.D., P.I.3, B.R.S.V.
- Clostridium-3, 5, or 7 way
- Leptospirosis-5 way
- Haemophilus somnus
- Pasteurella
After Day 1:
- Check the pens 2 to 3 times daily for
sick calves, examine and treat accordingly.
- Maintain good records on treatments,
re-treatments and responses.
- Top dress additional Diamond V XPTM
Yeast Culture in the sick pen if feed intake is below normal.*
- Give booster shots according to the
vaccination program recommended by the attending veterinarian 14
days following the initial inoculations.
- Maintain the starter ration containing
Diamond V XPTM Yeast Culture to supply 2 ounces of yeast
culture per head per day for 28 days.*
