With forage being the largest component of the diet and quality always a concern, it is vital for a healthy equine athlete to have proper fiber digestion. Studies have shown that yeast culture supplemented horses exhibited improved digestibility of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF), as well as hemicellulose. It is important to maximize the nutrients available in the forages being fed. Whether your hay is a high quality alfalfa or a low quality grass variety, maximizing its contribution is important to your horse's performance. 

Through our exercise physiology research, we have seen that through maximizing nutrition, yeast culture optimizes the overall fitness level of the horse. A study conducted by Glade and Campbell-Taylor (1990) showed that Diamond V Yeast Culture supplemented horses had heart rates of 99 beats per minute versus 120 beats per minute for control horses after 35 minutes of exercise. In addition to heart rate, when looking at the equine athlete, one of the other key factors is lactic acid build-up in the muscles. This build-up causes our horses the pain and soreness that sometimes require a long recovery period, depending on the exercise levels. In any event, it is beneficial to reduce this lactic acid build-up and improve recovery time. Diamond V Yeast Culture was shown in a study by Glade and Campbell-Taylor (1990) to effect lactic acid accumulation in the blood.
